Durban's Heaviest Band: Now Also a Facebook group.

The idea for Contrast The Water began brewing in vocalist Barry’s mind about a year before it’s inception in March 2006. Grant, a good friend of Barry’s was approached, and he was reluctantly coerced into becoming the first bass player for CTW, and one of the founding members. When the idea was broached, Barry being an `old school’ Hardcore Punk, insisted on  CTW being not only an extreme band, but a band that is honest, has integrity, and above all to be socially conscious, and used as a vehicle to bring attention to any socio-political wrong doings. One of the major obstacles to overcome was to get the S.A. Music Industry to take an extreme metal band seriously, and this was broached by obtaining a manager who is devoted to the band, and the metal scene in general, and who accepts perfection as the only solution…. Enter CTW’s manager Delia. Barry and Grant began scouting for muso’s, one of the bands prerequisites was to get Anthony De Souto as their drummer, he is an incredibly gifted pervayour of Death Metal drumming, and a reluctant metal head, who brought a strong diversity to what would later be CTW’s music. The next two members of CTW, where literally scooped up out of the gutter’s at the notorious Winston Pub in Durban. Enter Lead Guitarist Allen Brink, and Rhythm Guitarist Chris Bredenkamp. At CTW’s first rehearsal, a strange thing happened, a gathering of like minds and the forging of an intense brotherhood, which melded CTW into a family, and a very close knit one at that. Delia instantly cracked the whip, and within one month, CTW where ready for their first gig!!! And they have never looked back!!! There have been a few reshuffles and member changes that come with every band, and for two years Anthony had to be absent from the band as he had to restructure his life to accommodate what has now become a full time job, and has recently returned to take his rightful place in what he helped create CTW. His time out of the band was taken up by Raymond Heeson, who also added a lot to CTW. Grant had to leave due to work obligations, but is still very involved in all that is CTW. Enter Aaron Saunders, who took over Rhythm Guitar from Chris, and Chris fulfilling his life long ambition became CTW’s bassist with a difference. Once again misfortune struck CTW in the begining of July 2009, when Barry was attacked and robbed, and left severely injured. He had head injuries, spinal injuries, and several fractured ribs, this saw him having to take a leave of absence from performing for two months, so as to prevent permanent damage. Due to this incident, CTW had to withdraw from their long anticipated European Tour. And the bad news was not over yet. Later that same month, Anthony was diagnosed with tendonitis of his wrist, and had to stop drumming immediately to prevent further permanent damage, and unfortunately this has ended his tenure with CTW. With all this misfortune hounding the band, they have dug in their heels, and have become even more determined!!! Be that as it may, CTW have begun writing their second album, and they are 4 songs into an album that promises to show you a MUCH more brutal side of CTW, a band that has had enough misfotune and tragedy to last a life time, and they gonna be sharing some of this RAGE with you their fans and supporters!!! When this misfortune struck the band, their close friends Erebus came to the rescue, and have so kindly enabled the unbelievebly talented Colin Jones to help them write this new album!!! Contrast The Water is: Barry (Baz) Drewett: Vocals Allen (Weed) Brink: Lead Guitar Chase Drewett: Bass Guitar Colin (Crazy Eye) Jones (session): Drums Aaron ( Baked) Saunders: Rhythm Guitar Contrast The Water has become a household name in S.A. Barry: ‘We write music and lyrics that are honest, and are representative of our reality here in our Beautiful F**cked up country!!!’ ‘Creating music that is a representation of your life makes writing a lot more simple as you merely convey an emotion that is already resident within you!!!” CTW was swiftly signed to Witchdoctor Records and released an album “Forge Of Rage” in 2008, which has been selling very well nationally and internationally. CTW are well known as one of S.A.’s premier live Metal acts and have performed at all the major events in S.A. and are very well known for the very tight bond they have with their supporters, and are renowned as having very vicious Circle Mosh Pits and  Walls Of Death.
